They want it to be advanced to January 20

Farmers in the Tungabhadra command area on Monday staged a demonstration outside the office of the Irrigation Department here in protest against the decision of the Command Area Development Authority of Bhadra (CADA) to release water into canals from January 1.

In a memorandum submitted to the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department, protesters urged the CADA to reverse its decision and release the water from January 20. A majority of farmers in the command area had not prepared their land and releasing water would not help them in any way. CADA officials should visit the fields and ascertain from farmers a convenient date for releasing water, they said.
