District administrations directed to make the changes before January 15
Raichur: Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority Mukhyamantri Chandru said that he had set January 15 as the deadline for all district administrations for implementing Kannada in administration.
He told presspersons after a review meeting here on Monday that he was not satisfied with the response of district administrations in respect of implementation of Kannada in administration. Even after receiving many circulars, officials were not using Kannada on nameplates for government vehicles and nameboards of various government departments.
He said he had directed the district administrations to take immediate action to make changes giving priority to Kannada.
Mr. Chandru said that of 87 officials of various government departments here, 42 did not attend the meeting called to review the progress of implementation of Kannada in administration. He found 250 cases pertaining to government departments who had violated rules while using Kannada in administrative proceedings. Most of the letters addressed to the Government were written in English.
To a question, he said he was aware that people in 13 border villages of Krishna-Magnur mandal of Andhra Pradesh had been on an agitation demanding that the State Government announce the border villages as Kannada-speaking areas.
He said that all border villages in the State had been facing similar problems. He would request the Chief Minister to release a separate package to help Kannada-speaking people in these villages, he said.
