Funds released for distribution of uniforms
H. Manjunath, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, has said that arrangements have been made for distribution of textbooks and uniforms to students across the district from May 20. Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Manjunath said that records show that there are 83,414 children in standards one to five, 43,249 in the sixth and seventh standards, and 34,155 in standards eight to ten. Funds have been released for the distribution of uniforms under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. “In order to ensure that teachers don’t waste their time on collection and distribution of uniforms and textbooks, the department has deputed officers to each taluk to do the job,” he said.
To a question, he said there was no shortage of teachers in the district. There was adequate teaching staff in Chitradurga, Hosadurga and Holalkere taluks. However, there was some shortage in Molakalmuru, Hiriyur and Challakere taluks. Steps had been taken to depute teachers from Chitradurga, Hosadurga and Holalkere taluks to places where there was a shortage. “The deputation of teachers will commence from May 25,” he said. In order to prevent private schools from collecting donations, the department had requested the Deputy Commissioner to convene a meeting of school managements and warn them of stern action against collection of donation. “The department will initiate stern action against collection of donation if parents file specific complaints,” he said. He said the department had decided not to close down any school. Teachers and school development committees had been asked to convince people to send their children to school.
