M. Diwakar Babu, president of the District Congress Committee and former Minister, is in favour of a senior leader of the party occupying the post of the district unit president.

Responding to questions by presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Babu said that he had already requested the party leadership to relieve him of the responsibility and appoint a senior leader to the post. Anybody who can courageously fight against the misrule of the BJP should be made the president, he added.

When his attention was drawn to the reported statement of M.P. Prakash that his son should be made the president of the District Congress Committee, failing which he would quit the party, Mr. Babu said that such threats would have no impact in the party.

In fact, many of the Congress workers and supporters left the party after Mr. Prakash joined the party, he pointed out. Ultimately, the party high command would take a decision in the matter and everyone will have to abide by it, he said. Mr. Babu said that he was strongly opposed to the proposed move of the City Corporation to take up road widening in Kalamma street and Car street in the city. Referring to Ms. Nagarathnamma of the Congress joining the BJP, Mr. Babu said that the party would issue a notice and if she fails to abide by it, disciplinary action would be initiated against her.
