HASSAN: Congress leader B. Shivaram has criticised Hassan District Congress Committee president A. Manju for taking a delegation to All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi to urge that the former Minister H.C. Srikantaiah, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party before the Lok Sabha elections, be readmitted to the Congress.

He also criticised the district unit leaders for being unable to convince the high command to field a party candidate in the Legislative Council elections from Hassan.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Shivaram said that the Congress should have fielded its candidate in the district.

‘Save Congress’

Mr. Shivaram said that a “Save Congress” campaign had been launched in the district as members within the party were allegedly set to slaughter the Congress in the district. “We will not allow this to happen as we have the support of honest Congress workers who will strengthen the party in the district,” he said.

Mr. Shivaram said that all loyal Congress workers would meet on December 4 to decide the future course of action.
