An awareness programme on mental health will be held at Senate Bhavan, Manasagangotri campus of the University of Mysore, here on Saturday.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka State Mental Health Authority, Mysore District Legal Services Authority, Mysore district administration and voluntary organisations working in the area of mental health have jointly organised the programme.

Principal District and Sessions judge H.P. Sandesh told presspersons here on Thursday that Karnataka High Court judge N. Kumar would inaugurate the programme at 10 a.m. C.R. Chandrashekar, professor, Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, Bangalore, would be the chief guest.

Mr. Kumar, who is the administrative judge for Mysore district, would flag off an awareness jatha at Town Hall at 8.30 a.m., Mr. Sandesh said.

After the inaugural function, experts would speak on topics related to mental health, at the Senate Bhavan between 11.30 a.m. and 1.45 p.m. Dr. Chandrashekar, psychiatrist B.N. Raveesh from Mysore Medical College and Research Institute and T.S. Satyanarayana Rao of JSS Medical College, Mysore, would speak. There would be an interaction on mental health from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Mr. Sandesh said principals of colleges had been invited to the programme besides students from medical and law colleges here. He said resolutions would be passed after the daylong programme.

Deputy Commissioner P.S. Vastrad and District Surgeon G.M. Vamadeva were present.
