In a daylight heist at a jewellery store, two men overpowered an employee and made away with ornaments estimated to be worth Rs. 15 lakh on Sahukar Channaiah Road in Tonachi Koppal Layout in Saraswathipuram police station limits on Tuesday.

According to the police, Raju, an assistant in Royal Jewel’s, located in Royal Complex, owned by one Jagadish, was overpowered by two men, who are said to have followed him, when he opened the store for business as usual at 8.45 a.m.

The police, quoting Raju said, the duo tied his hands, gagged him and pushed him into a room inside the shop before making away with the jewellery. However, nobody in the store’s surroundings, including those present in an eatery opposite the shop, were aware about the robbery until the shop owner came there around 10 a.m. “Nobody saw the culprits walking away with the valuables,” Police Commissioner K.L. Sudheer, who inspected the shop with other police officers, said.

He said the police had definite clues about them.

Mr. Sudheer said the shop owner had switched off the CCTV cameras before closing the store on Monday night.

On reports that the robbery took place at gunpoint, the Commissioner said they were investigating this aspect too. “I can say that it is not the job of a professional gang. If that is the case, then the question of using a firearm for the crime does not arise,” he said.

Fingerprint experts and a dog squad were pressed into service. The police questioned Raju.
