CHIKMAGALUR: Dattamala Abhiyan organised by Srirama Sena, Hindu Janajagrutha Samiti and the Sanathana Samiti at Datta Peeta in Bababudangiri, about 30 km from here, passed off peacefully.

About 1,500 devotees, mainly from the coastal districts of the State and north Karnataka, participated. Clad in saffron, the devotees carrying offerings trekked to the peeta after a dip in the Honnammanahalla.


As entry to the shrine has been banned owing to repair work being undertaken, the devotees placed their offerings inside the structure constructed by the district administration near the road leading to Galikere. They offered prayers to Dattatreya there. Sri Atmananda Swamy of Sridhara Ashram, Bangalore, Sri Siddalinga Swamy, honorable president of Srirama Sena Mahanta Jaipuri Swamy of Kashi and Nagasadhu participated.

Tight security

Security has been tightened and check-posts have been established at Kaimara and Attigundi to screen vehicles going to the peeta. Hemant Nimbalkar and Praveen Madhukar, superintendents of police of Chikmagalur and Udipi districts, respectively, supervised the security arrangements.
