Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree said here on Friday that 143 cultural programmes have been selected for Dasara festivities. This is apart from the ones to be held at the Bengaluru International Airport, she said.
Speaking to presspersons after a meeting with the Dasara cultural sub-committee, Ms. Umashree said that the programmes would feature artistes such as Pandit Jasraj on October 13, Shehnai maestro Ustad Ali Ahmad Hussain Khan on October 5, and Russian artistes on October 12.
A dance feature ‘Suryaninda Chandranedege’ would be showcased on October 6, fusion music by Louis and team on October 8, tabla recital by Rimpa Shiva and team from Kolkata on October 9, Carnatic music by Nityashree Mahadevan from Chennai on October 10, and Sufi music by Mukhtiar Ali on October 11. All these programmes would be held at the palace between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m, she said.
The shows at the Bengaluru International Airport were to attract tourists visiting the State. The sub-committee is exploring ways to accommodate more cultural shows, the Minister said. The shows will be held on the premises of Jaganmohan Palace, Kalamandira, Town Hall, Ganabharathi, Kuppanna Park and Chikkagadiyara, between 5.30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
As many as 27 programmes each will be held at Jaganmohan Palace, Town Hall and Ganabharathi; 18 programmes each at Kuppanna Park and Chikkagadiyara; nine plays at the Kalamandira, and the rest at other venues in the city.
The Minister said that officials had been told to make honoraria payment to artistes through demand drafts if it was less than Rs. 10,000 or through cheques if it exceeded that amount. They have been told to ensure clean drinking water and toilet facilities, she said.
The Department of Woman and Child Welfare has been told to organise programmes for children with disabilities. Senior citizens will be provided with an opportunity to perform at the J.K. Grounds here, Ms. Umashree added.
