SHIMOGA: Brisk preparations are on for the grand celebration of Dasara festival in the City by the City Municipal Council. Various programmes are lined up for the three-day celebrations that will begin on October 6.
Briefing the presspersons here on Saturday, City Municipal Council president M. Shankar, informed that the festival would be marked by a colourful Dasara procession on October 9 on Vijayadashami. He noted that the procession carrying Goddess Chamundeshwari on howdah-laden elephant would be flagged off from the historical Shivappa Nayaka Palace at 3 pm on that day.
Various cultural troupes such as Hamsa Nrutya, Karadi Majalu, Keelu Kudure, Dollo Kunita, Veeragaase, Dombara Kunita, Tattiraya Tanda, Nandikolu and Police band would participate in the procession. Apart from that platoons of Bharat Seva Dal, Scouts, NCC would participate in the procession to add charm to the grand finale of the Nadahabba.
Security arrangements will be made at the Nehru Stadium, Shivappa Nayaka Palace and during the procession in the wake of recent terror strikes in the country.
Cultural programmes will be held from October 6 to 8. On October 6, a comedy show will be presented by Sudha Baragur and vocal recital by Nagaratna and Shanta Anand. Students of Guruguha Sangeeta Vidyalaya would present a unique programme –‘Bhakti-Bhava Sangeeta’ at 7 pm on October 7. Dancer Geeta Datar and troupe will perform Bharata Natyam at 8 pm on the same day.
On October 8, singer Shimoga Venugopal will present Sugama Sangeeta programme at 7 pm. Shankar Shanbhag of Bangalore will present Kavya Sangeeta. All these programmes would be held at the Shivappa Nayaka Palace.
On October 9, a comedy play directed by Yashwant Sardeshpande –‘Rashi Chakra’ would be staged at Nehru Stadium at 4 pm.
