Actor Darshan Tugudeepa, one of the favourite actors in Mandya, hit the campaign trail here on Tuesday to seek votes for Congress candidate M.H. Ambareesh, who is contesting from the Mandya Assembly constituency in the May 5 elections.

With this, again, the campaign for the Assembly elections has become a star-studded affair. Sudeep, ‘Nenapirali’ Prem, ‘Duniya’ Viji and Yash from the Kannada film industry participated in a rally on April 17 when Mr. Ambareesh filed his nomination papers for Assembly polls. Mr. Darshan joined Ms. Sumalatha Ambareesh here on Tuesday morning and began canvassing after offering prayers at the Kalikamba temple.

Hundreds of Congress activists and fans of Mr. Darshan and Ms. Sumalatha were present.

They held roadshows at Pete Beedhi, Kari Mane Gate near Nagamangala Road, Beedi Labourers’ Colony, Anekere Beedhi, Holalu Circle, Shankara Pura, Kallahalli, V.V. Nagar, Marigowda Layout, Chamundeshwari Nagar, KEB Colony, Shankara Nagar, Kuvempu Nagar, Housing Board, Hosahalli, Halahalli, 100 ft Road and at a few other places in the city.

“Our and your candidate is Mr. Ambareesh. Please vote for the hand symbol,” Mr. Darshan told the people during the campaign. He also appealed to the party workers to canvass for Mr. Ambareesh and ensure the victory of the Congress in the Mandya Assembly segment.

While Ms. Sumalatha along with Mr. Darshan and others campaigned in Mandya, Mr. Ambareesh campaigned in the rural pockets in the constituency.
