Memorandum of demands submitted

Raichur: Members of the Raichur district units of the Karnataka State Dalit Sangharsha Samiti, the Karnataka State Dalit Vidyarthi Okkuta and the Karnataka Dalit Mahila Okkuta staged a dharna here on Wednesday demanding that the Union and the State Governments provide funds in their budgets proportionate to the Dalit population and initiate action for effective implementation various programmes meant for the welfare of Dalits.

About 50 activists took part in the dharna at a tent erected in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

They submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Adoni Syed Saleem urging the Union and State governments to meet their demands.

In the memorandum, they demanded provision of adequate funds in the Union and State budgets based on the strength of Dalit population, allocate cultivable land to landless agricultural labourers from Dalit families, take steps to regularise unauthorised cultivation by Dalits, provide additional funds for the proper implementation of various schemes meant for Dalits, waive loans released to Dalit families through the Ambedkar Development Corporation and other cooperative societies and enhance housing grant from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000 while allotting houses to Dalits under various housing schemes.
