The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge will pronounce judgment on December 17 on the murder of three women allegedly committed by Mohan Kumar, a physical education teacher, by administering cyanide.

The prosecution has accused him of murdering 20 women between 2005 and 2009. Kumar was arrested in October 2009.

On Tuesday, the judge will give verdict on the alleged murder of Anita from Bantwal, Leela from Vamana Padavu and Sundanda from Sullia.

The judge is hearing all the 20 cases. Special Public Prosecutor Cheyabba Byari was representing the prosecution while Mohan Kumar was defending himself before the court.

Youth drowns

A 22-year-old man drowned in the Phalguni near Kerinja village on Wednesday. According to police, Avinash, a resident of Siddanakatte in Bantwal Taluk, had gone to bathe in the river on Wednesday around 9 a.m. when he slipped and fell. Fire personnel and local swimmers reached the spot but were too late.

Freak accident

A 25-year-old man died following injuries he sustained while pruning branches of mango trees in his farm in Harekala village.

According to Konaje police, Sameer was hit on his head by a branch of the tree he was pruning on Tuesday. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Cattle transporter held

Bantwal Town police have arrested Aboobaker (37) from Gadiyar for allegedly transporting two calves illegally. The police said he was driving the vehicle in which the two calves were being transported from Uppinangady to Mangalore.
