Personnel of the Customs Department detained four persons and seized 46 kg of saffron, 1,800 memory cards and 105 cartons of foreign cigarettes from them in two separate cases, at Karavali Junction here on Sunday.

Sources in the Customs Office at Malpe said the personnel of the Customs Department had seized 46 kg of saffron of Iranian origin, its estimated worth is Rs. 90 lakh in international market, from three individuals travelling in a bus from Mangalore to Mumbai.

\The names of the three were given as Mohammed Ashraf, Mohammed Rafi and Mohammed Azaruddin. All the three belong to Kasaragod in Kerala.

In a separate case, the personnel from the Customs Department detained another person who was carrying 105 cartons of foreign cigarettes. His name was given as Abdul Rahim of Kasaragod, sources added.
