An 18-year-old boy was stabbed by an armed group over a cricket match in Mahalakshmi Layout on Sunday.

The victim, Santosh, a resident of Modi Hospital Road, had a fight with another group of boys during a cricket match. Later, while returning home with his friends, he stopped near a hotel for a smoke. Suddenly a group of six boys attacked one of the boys. When Santosh tried to intervene, the gang stabbed him on his head.

The gang chased Santosh when he tried to flee with the stab wounds. Santosh ran into the hotel, while the gang was stopped by a security guard. A customers, who turned out to be a doctor, gave him first aid and took him to K.C. General hospital for further treatment. He is said to be out of danger.

The Mahalakshmi Layout police have taken up a case of attempt to murder.
