The State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), S.Y. Gurushant, on Saturday demanded that a CBI inquiry be ordered into the alleged land scams involving Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and his kin. The Yeddurappa Government should resign over the land de-notification issue, Mr. Gurushant told presspersons here.

The proposed judicial inquiry would be mere eyewash as reports of many commissions in the past had gathered dust, Mr. Gurushant said. An inquiry by the CBI was a must into the land scams, he said.

He criticised the BJP leaders for their statement that the de-notified land would be returned to farmers. He said those involved in the land deals should be punished according to the law.

Irregularities in the allotment of land by the KIADB too should be probed. It was unfortunate that the BJP high command and the RSS were tight-lipped over the land scams in the State, Mr. Gurushant said.

The Government should take steps to give back the land acquired by the KIADB to farmers, he said.
