The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the State Government to write to the Centre seeking its nod to provide more than 25 kg of foodgrains to people under the public distribution system (PDS).

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice A.S. Bopanna directed the State to write to the Centre on the issue of increasing foodgrain allocation to each family from 25 kg to 35 kg. The Bench passed the direction on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition by Roopa Nayak who said the Supreme Court had asked the governments to increase allocation through PDS and ensure that foodgrains did not rot in godowns.

The Bench adjourned further hearing of the case.
