The Karnataka High Court on Thursday directed the State Government not to demolish the sanctum sanctorum of Shree Siddalingeshwara Swami Gadduge at Yediyur in Tumkur district. The court asked the State Government to file an affidavit stating that it would not demolish the Gadduge.

The court passed the order when it was hearing a public interest litigation petition by Hotti Chandrashekar and others against a proposal by the State to demolish the Gadduge sanctum and then renovate it.

File status report

A Division Bench comprising Justice N.K. Patil and Justice A.S. Bopanna directed the Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu to file a status report on a public interest litigation petition filed by Anwar, a resident of Madikeri, who said the DC had illegally permitted the construction of a Banni Mantapa on a playground of the Government Municipal School in Madikeri.
