The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tumkur and the Tahasildar of Kunigal to be present in court in connection with demolition of houses in Kunigal.

Justice K. Satyanarayana passed the order on petitions by P. Nagaraj and others of Kunigal stating that more than 700 houses in the town had been illegally and arbitrarily demolished.

No notice

The petitioners said they had not been served notice by the district administration before their houses were marked for demolition. Besides, no compensation had been paid.

Justice Satyanarayana asked the DC and the Tahasildar to be present on the next date of hearing and adjourned further hearing of the case.
