BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday stayed a notification by the Land Army calling for tenders to construct houses and commercial centres in 64 acres of land belonging to the Kendra Pahihara Samithi (Beggar Rehabilitation Centre) on Magadi Road.

Justice Ajit Gunjal passed the order on a petition by M. Sukaraj Mariyappa Talkeri.

The petitioner had challenged the tender notification saying that it was published in an obscure corner of a Kannada newspaper.

It said the tender envisaged the commercial development of land belonging to the samithi and it was worth Rs. 300 crore.

Justice Gunjal accepted the contentions of the petitioner and in an interim order stayed the tender notification.

He adjourned further the case.
