The High Court on Monday stayed further proceedings initiated against Naveen Soorinje, a reporter with Kasturi Newz 24, in connection with the attack on youngsters at a ‘homestay’ in Mangalore on July 28.

Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das stayed proceedings until the next date of hearing next week and ordered issue of notice to the Mangalore Rural police.

Plea

The petitioner-reporter had claimed in his plea that he was not part of any illegal assembly of persons who carried out the attack on the youngsters at the ‘homestay’, but he had gone to the spot to report on the incident after getting information about the attack.

He was made accused number 44 in the charge sheet filed by the Mangalore Rural police on September 20, and was arrested on November 7 after issuance of non-bailable warrant against him by the magistrate court.
