Bangalore: A software engineer and his wife were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly torturing their 15-year-old domestic help. The girl, who was rescued by the police, has been hospitalised.
The police, on a tip-off, raided the couple’s flat in Poorvasayi Apartments in Somasundarapalya near H.S.R. Layout and arrested Pallava Charan (30) and Sinchitha Charan (25).
The former is an Infosys employee. The domestic help, hailing from Kolkata, had been brought to take care of the couple’s one year-old child.
The HSR Layout Police said a case has been registered against the accused under the Juvenile Justice Act 2000 and several sections of the Indian Penal Code. The accused, natives of Kolkata, have allegedly been torturing the teenager for the last few months. On Monday evening, volunteers of the Association for Promoting Social Action (APSA) tipped off the police who then raided the flat.
The girl had reportedly told the police she had been working for the couple for the last one year and that both were guilty of beating her with a belt and a lathi.
