DHARWAD: The Dharwad Police seized counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs. 2 lakh on Friday and arrested two persons in connection with the case.

The police gave the names of the arrested as Abdul Razak M. Sheikh (38) of Dharwad and Kabir Bashasab (25) of Hattigund in Bhadravati taluk of Shimoga district.

They were arrested at Kittur Channamma Park in Dharwad when they were trying to “sell” the fake notes.

Another two accused in the case, Anwar and Keshamurthy, escaped from the scene when the police team in plainclothes reached the spot, the police said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police of Dharwad P.S. Patil said that the police were able to arrest the accused based on the information provided by farmer Mallappa Kallappa Kadammanavar, a resident of Hosatti in Dharwad taluk.

Police Commissioner N. Shivakumar has lauded the police personnel for their quick action. Further investigation is on.
