The Legislative Council on Tuesday paid tributes to the doyen of Carnatic music R.K. Srikantan, who passed away here on Monday. Moving an obituary reference, Deputy Chairperson of the Council Vimala Gowda, who was in the chair, said the music exponent had performed in the Mysore palace when he was just 14. The musician commenced his professional life as an All India Radio artiste and had performed in several countries, she said. Leader of the House S.R. Patil said several awards, including the Padma Bhushan, had been conferred on Srikantan. Deputy Leader of the Opposition K.B. Shanappa said, “Music is immortal. Srikantan’s legacy will continue and his music will live for ever.” A minute’s silence was observed in the honour of the music exponent.
