A major fire in a godown at Sadique Nagar, near Guthalu Road, here on Thursday destroyed a huge quantity of cotton.
According to sources in the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the fire broke out around 4 p.m. in the godown belonging to Akram. Residents noticed the smoke emanating from the godown and alerted the department.
Firemen brought the situation under control by 5.30 p.m.
The reason for the fire could be ascertained only after an investigation, the fire personnel said.
A forest fire broke out at Karighatta reserve forest area, near Srirangapatna, on Wednesday night and engulfed several acres. Firemen put out the fire.
