As per the directive of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Pernem (north Goa), the Crime Branch of Goa police on Tuesday registered a corruption and cheating case against national secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party and the former MLA Jitendra Deshprabhu and eight others, including director and officials of departments of Industries and Mines, Transport, and Chairman of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Chief Conservator of Forests, the Sarpanch, and Sagolda Village Panchayat Secretary and contractor for illegal mining case.

The case pertains to a complaint of illegal extraction of iron ore estimated at Rs. 50 crore carried out in his own property by Mr. Deshparabu and dumped in the adjoining property without obtaining required permissions and thus causing wrongful loss to the exchequer. The complaint was filed by Pradeep Kakodkar, Kashinath Shetye, and Ketan Govekar.
