Some councillors raked up the controversy surrounding the Mayor and the Commissioner

MYSORE: Monday's meeting of the Mysore City Corporation (MCC), which was scheduled to discuss issues pertaining to infrastructure, was adjourned without transaction as councillors got embroiled in an argument that culminated in slogan shouting and a dharna.

Certain key issues germane to the future of the city were listed on the agenda of the meeting.

his included a sanction for preparing a blue print and a technical report for a road underpass or a subway across the Sayyaji Rao Road.

The other important issue that was to be discussed was related to drinking water supply in the city and the need to ensure steady power supply to the pumping station at Hongalli that has been affected owing to intermittent supply.

As a result, many parts of the city go without adequate water supply.

However, 24 councillors from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (Secular) had submitted a signed memorandum seeking a special meeting to discuss the controversy surrounding the Mayor and the Commissioner who have locked horns as the Mayor Bharathi recently called for a recall of the Commissioner.

The special meeting was fixed for 6 p.m. However, some councillors raked up the controversy surrounding the Mayor and the Commissioner. This resulted in a prolonged debate and the members created a din in which nothing was audible.

Finally, the Mayor ruled that as per the KMC Act of 1976 the Corporation has to take up issues listed in the agenda. But the meeting was adjourned after some councillors resorted to shouting and staged a dharna in the council hall.
