Meeting held to discuss poll preparations in Bijapur district

Counting of votes would be taken up on December 21
Bijapur: Deputy Commissioner R. Shantraju has called upon the leaders of all political parties to cooperate for the smooth conduct of elections to the Legislative Council from the local authorities constituency to be held on December 18.
Presiding over a meeting of political leaders and district-level officers to discuss the poll preparations, at his office here on Wednesday, Mr. Shantraju said that it was mandatory for voters to show proof of identity. Voters should mark their first and second preference in the assigned space on the ballot paper. Prohibitory orders have been enforced in the district.
Cases would be filed against candidates who take up campaigning in a 100-m radius from the polling booths, he added. Mr. Shantraju stated that every candidate could depute a poll agent in every polling booth.
Polling would be held on December 18 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Counting of votes would be taken up on December 21 at the mini Vidhana Soudha.
He stated that members of two zilla panchayats, taluk panchayats, 360 gram panchayats, five city municipal councils and three town panchayats would be eligible for voting.
