D. Vishweshwar Bhat, Principal District and Sessions judge, Bellary, has awarded three years’ rigorous imprisonment and one year simple imprisonment, besides a fine of Rs. 20,000, to Muniyappa, sub-inspector in Hospet (Rural) police station, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 500 from T. Nagendrappa, a constable, for sanctioning leave. Muniyappa was trapped by the Lokayukta police on January 22, 1998, following a complaint from Mr. Nagendrappa. Mr. Bhat also ordered that Muniyappa should undergo simple imprisonment for six months if he failed to pay the fine. — Staff Correspondent
