Deve Gowda to inaugurate the programme

Programme to be held in Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad and Shillong as well

Experts will deliver lectures; group

discussions planned

HASSAN: The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda will inaugurate a two-day inter-State zone-level convention of National Service Scheme Volunteers from six States here on Saturday.

The meet is being organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra and the Union Ministry of Youth Services and Sports. Over 300 volunteers are expected to participate in it.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, district youth services coordinator of the kendra M.N. Nataraj said the thrust of the programme was to train youth on national integration and communal harmony.

Selected youth from Karnataka (66), Kerala (50), Tamil Nadu (90), Andhra Pradesh (76), Puducherry (16) and Lakshadweep (2) would take part. Mr. Nataraj said the programme would be held in Hassan, Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad and Shillong.

In Hassan, the convention would be held at the Government Arts College auditorium.

On Saturday, K.K. Datta of the Oxford School, Hassan, will speak on the role of the youth in national integration and maintaining communal harmony.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Balachandra will deliver a lecture on protection of environment and on global warming. On Sunday, Dr. Jayanth from the Malnad Engineering College will deliver a lecture on water safety and management, while zilla panchayat Deputy Secretary M.R. Balakrishna will speak on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Officers from the kendra in Delhi will make a presentation on the National Youth Corps, after which group discussions will be held.

Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda will deliver the valedictory address on Sunday.
