: A contractor reportedly barged into the office of a senior official of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and threatened him.

The contractor, identified as Krishnamurthy, reportedly threatened BBMP’s Additional Commissioner (Finance) K. Kiran with dire consequences if his pending bills were not cleared. While BBMP Commissioner Lakshminarayan said a case would be filed with the Ulsoor Gate police, police officials denied receiving any complaint.

The BBMP Commissioner said it was an unfortunate development. He conceded that the BBMP owed more than Rs. 1,200 crore in pending bills to contractors. He also said the BBMP was clearing bills based on seniority and for special cases such as medical emergencies and family functions.

It may be recalled that former chief engineer N. Devaraj, who headed the Technical Vigilance Cell under Commissioner, was also threatened by a group of contractors.

It was following this incident that the BBMP decided to install CCTV cameras outside his chamber.
