Construction workers had a field day on Wednesday at the third edition of the Labour Day Olympics.
Displaying high fitness levels and enthusiasm, over 600 people participated in long jump, shot put and track events at the Mount Carmel College ground in Vasanthnagar. Supervisors and company executives were seen cheering on the participants.
Contestants were allowed to participate in any two events. While men formed the majority of the contestants, about 20 women also participated in the event. Mehamud, the runner-up of the women’s 100m race, said that all of them had enjoyed the experience immensely.Many participants such as Giridhar Raut were attending the event for the third time. “It is an event that we all look forward to,” he said. Victor Pereira, a senior manager at Total Environment Building Systems Pvt. Ltd, which registered 127 men and seven women for the event, said: “This day is dedicated to the workers.”
The event was organised by Credai, Bangalore chapter.
