Party has accepted Tourism Minister's challenge: Madhwaraj

A team of 500 members of the Udupi Block Congress Committee left for Hiriyur in Chitradurga district on Saturday to join the “padayatra”, launched by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) against what has been described as illegal mining in the State .

Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj said that the party workers from Udupi would walk with the leaders of the State unit for 20 km from Jawaragondana Halli to Hiriyur on August 1.

Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy had challenged the Congress leaders to come to Bellary, which the State Congress leaders had accepted. “Our struggle against the corrupt Bharatiya Janata Party government in the State will continue till it is dislodged,” Mr. Madhwaraj said.

President of the party's district unit M.A. Gafoor said that illegal mining to the tune of Rs. 80,000 crore was going on in the State.

It was the biggest scam in the country. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and the Reddy brothers were giving misleading statements on the issue. Only a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would bring out the truth.

The BJP government had become unstable.

More than 600 workers had decided to join the padayatra.
