The public representatives and the Congress workers of Joida taluk on Thursday condemned the attitude of Sunil Hegde, MLA from Haliyal, who criticised the former Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee leader R.V. Deshpande.

Lakshmi Hanabar, member of zilla panchayat, and Vilas Naik, member of taluk panchayat, told presspersons that Ramanagar was not part of the Haliyal Assembly Constituency when Mr. Deshpande was the MLA. But he had carried out many development works in Ramanagar. However, Mr. Hegde, who became MLA after the reorganisation of the constituency, had done nothing for Ramanagar, they said.

Mr. Naik criticised Mr. Hegde for his statement that he would open the crest gates of the Supa Dam, if the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. failed to fulfil the demand of the evacuees of the project.

Mr. Naik said that the MLA should know that if the gates of the dams were forcefully opened, it would cause disaster in the village downstream of the dam. A public representative should behave in a responsible manner before issuing such statements, he said.

The Congress leaders criticised Mr. Hegde's “grama vastyavya” as a drama to divert the attention from his non-performance.

They said the MLA had stayed in Diggi village with hi-tech facility.
