Dubbing the circulation of SMS about threat to the lives of people from the northeast living here as a “conspiracy” hatched by some vested interests, Congress leaders on Saturday demanded an explanation from the government over the “inordinate” delay in locating the source of text messages.

Leaders, including Nazeer Ahmed, MLC; N.A. Haris, MLA; president of the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee Rizwan Arshad, and Dinesh Gundu Rao, MLA, demanded a probe into the “conspiracy to malign a minority community” in the State.

There was an urgent need to trace the source of these messages and nab those responsible for creating such havoc. Taking exception to RSS volunteers helping the people at the railway station, Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao said their presence sent a wrong signal, though their service was commendable.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao visited the railway station along with Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa and appealed to those bound for the northeast against leaving Bangalore.
