‘They are not being distributed to genuine beneficiaries’
DHARWAD: Congress workers took out a protest march here on Thursday in protest against the delay in issue of Below Poverty Line cards.
The protesters led by the former Minister and president of the Hubli-Dharwad Mahanagar Zilla Congress unit Jabbar Khan Honnalli marched from Kalabhavan to the office of the Assistant Director of Food and Civil Supplies demanding early distribution of ration cards.
Mr. Honnalli addressed the protesters and complained that the BPL cards were not being issued to genuine beneficiaries. Residents of several areas in Hubli, Jaibhimnagar, Ambedkarnagar, Kolikeri, Danunagar, Attikolla, Sriramnagar, Nehrunagar, Gauli Galli, Jannatnagar and a few slums in Dharwad had been affected due to the delay in issue of the cards, he said.
Mr Honnalli said that although many memoranda had been submitted in this regard, no action had been taken. The rise in prices had added to the misery of the people.
Mr. Honnalli said that if BPL cards were not distributed within 15 days, the Hubli-Dharwad Congress unit would launch an agitation in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The protestors submitted a memorandum addressed to the Assistant Director of Food and Civil Supplies.
