BELLARY: R.V. Deshpande, president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), has said that the party’s defeat in the recent byelections to the Assembly had come as a blessing in disguise as unity had now been forged among leaders.

Mr. Deshpande, who along with D.K. Shivakumar, working president of the KPCC; Ramesh Kumar, former Speaker, and several other party leaders, was here to address party workers after the candidature of N.Y. Hanumanthappa was announced for the Bellary constituency.

“All leaders of the party have come together and will fight the elections with renewed vigour,” he said.

The performance of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government, the “misrule” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the State and the misuse of power by Ministers in Bellary district are among other things that would be highlighted in the Congress election campaign, he said.
