Congress activists staged a protest here on Monday condemning the delay in issuance of title deeds to slum dwellers.
The Karnataka State Slum Clearance Board had issued identity cards to all slum dwellers in the city. Unfortunately, the title deeds were in turn given only to a few slum dwellers. According to the law, title deeds could be issued for a house located in a 300-feet area with necessary civic amenities.
The width of the road where the house was located should be 20 ft. Protesters said that the conditions were unscientific and asked the Government to amend them at the earliest.
President of the District Congress Committee Prasanna Kumar said that the interests of the slum dwellers were neglected by the State Government. Local MLA K.S. Eshwarappa has failed to fulfil his promise on issuing title deeds to all slum dwellers in the city.
The Bharatiya Janata Party leaders who indulged in amassing wealth through unfair means have neglected the problems faced by the poor, he said.
Councillor K.B. Prasanna Kumar asked the Government to upgrade civic amenities in slums. Congress leaders marched in a protest along with slum dwellers on the main streets of the city. Party leaders Ramesh Hegde, P.V. Vishwanath and Y.H. Nagaraj took part in the protest.
