Congress candidate Ravindra Kumar won the byelection form ward no. 41 (Veeranagere) of the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) defeating BJP candidate Srinivas by a margin of 181 votes.

With this, the Congress has wrested the seat earlier held by the BJP.

The byelection was necessitated by the disqualification of Narayanappa, who had won the election on a BJP ticket. Mr. Ravindra Kumar secured 1,971 votes while the BJP candidate secured 1,790 votes. Independent candidate Kiran Kumar polled 579 votes while JD(S) candidate C. Swamy finished in fourth place securing 278 votes. Of the total votes polled, 135 votes were found invalid.

The counting of votes began at 7 a.m. at the election branch of the corporation premises here on Thursday.

Council Secretary Gayathri, who is the Returning Officer, supervised the counting of votes.
