Activists of Youth Congress staged a protest in the city on Wednesday opposing the dumping of garbage by Shimoga City Municipal Council near Hosamane extension in the city.

Addressing the protest meet, President of Youth Congress Shimoga city unit K. Ranganath said that the garbage collected by Shimoga CMC was being dumped near Tunga canal that passes through Hosamane extension.

The reckless act of Shimoga CMC had resulted in health and hygiene problems in Hosamane and surrounding localities. The mosquito menace had increased. Mounds of rotting garbage were attracting dogs and pigs. When it rained heavily, the garbage spilled over on the road creating hardship for pedestrians, he said.

The protest was withdrawn after Environment Engineer of CMC Manu Kumar visited the spot and assured to clear the garbage. Functionaries of Youth Congress H.P. Girish, Harish, Sidharaj, Anand, Harsha, and Chandru took part in the protest.
