Congress leader and the former Union minister B. Janardhan Poojary on Saturday presented Rs. 25,000 to each of the family of five persons who died of flash floods in the district.

The money was given out of Rs. 4.75 lakh collected by Congress party activists. Mr. Poojary visited houses of the families in Bantwal, Ammunje, Belthangady, Puttur, and Harekala.

Among the victims are Mahabala Moolya (24) from Bantwal, Kallandhar (21) from Harekala, and Izad Aboobacker (19) and Abdul Razak (20) from Ammunje.

Forests, Ecology and Environment Minister B. Ramanath Rai accompanied Mr. Poojary to the houses of Aboobacker and Razak.
