Students held a protest here on Wednesday against the alleged sexual harassment of a student by a college secretary.

Students and activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad blocked Hosur Circle here and demanded action against the secretary.

ABVP office bearer Mahendra Kautal, who led the protest, alleged that the girl, a student of Gyana Sanskar Bharati College was harassed by Guruprasad, secretary of the governing committee of the college. He claimed that the secretary demanded sexual favours from her for awarding more marks in internal assessment.

Mr. Kautal also accused the secretary of “harassing” eight other students, collecting large fines from them when they did not attend class for a day.

Speaking to presspersons, the students said they were ‘fed up' with the harassment and demanded a refund of their fees. The college should issue them transfer certificate so that they could join other colleges, they said.

Although the Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University had sent an inquiry committee on Tuesday to look into the complaints, students were not allowed to speak to them, Mr. Kautal said.

Later, members of the college committee came to the Vidynagar police station to refund the fees and issue transfer certificates as demanded by the protesters.

They also showed the students the secretary's suspension order.

Mr. Kautal said another college affiliated to Karnatak University had come forward to take in the students and the formalities would be completed on Thursday.
