Burglars raided a college in Karad in Satara district on Wednesday and made away with Rs. 20.22 lakh kept in the locker. According to the police, the amount was collected from students throughout the day towards tuition fee. The cashier had planned to deposit the same in the back the next morning. The police were on the lookout for the burglars after registering a case.

A class 10 boy committed suicide at his home in Kolhapur on Wednesday apparently following a stern warning by his father to focus on his studies. Ameya Suryavanshi, 15, a student of the Vidyapeeth High School, hanged himself when nobody was at home. His father had asked him to concentrate more on studies as good number of marks were needed for admission in any course in the science stream. The police have registered a case. — Correspondent

Sanjaykumar Chaugale, 43, a farmer from Bhadagaon in Kolhapur district committed suicide by jumping into a well in his farm on Wednesday. He was said to be under duress following mounting dues. His wife had gone to her parents’ house when the incident happened.

Revenue officers return jeeps
Revenue officers in Kolhapur have returned 16 jeeps to the district collector saying the vehicles were of little use as the government did not provide diesel to run them. Local diesel dealers have refused to provide the fuel on loan as the bill amounting to Rs. 4 lakh had not been sanctioned yet by the treasury.
