Under pressure from the public, the Shimoga City Municipal Council (CMC) has announced regulations to control the installation of flex and display boards at public places in the city.

In a press release, Commissioner of the CMC P.G. Ramesh said that prior permission from the CMC was necessary for installation of display material.

The roads, drains, and the pavement were feeling the brunt of the indiscriminate use of display material by people for various purposes. The information on the size of the display boards, the place, and the period of installation should be furnished to the CMC along with the application while seeking permission for setting up display material. The display boards should be removed after the specified period. The maximum time allowed for a display board was five days, he said.

It is necessary to obtain the permission of Mescom for setting up display boards. The CMC will not be responsible for any mishap involving electricity. Stern action will be initiated under Karnataka Municipality Act against persons who fail to abide by the regulations on installation of display boards, he said.
