Heavy rain, accompanied by gusty winds, occurred in Chitradurga, Hosadurga and Challakere taluks on Saturday night, hampering vehicular movement on all major roads, including national highways 4 and 13, for more than four hours on Sunday.
Houses in low-lying areas, including Buddha Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Chennabasappa Compound, C.K. Pura and Nehru Nagar, were inundated. Residents of these areas had to struggle throughout Saturday night to prevent stormwater from entering their houses.
Meanwhile, residents blamed the authorities concerned for not constructing stormwater drains in low-lying areas. Electricity poles in many areas have also been damaged. In some places, several houses were surrounded by water and people had to be rescued by fire personnel, who visited such places following complaints by some residents.
