Members of the Karnataka Integrated Development Society, an NGO, prevented two child marriages in two villages on Wednesday with the help of the officials of the Department of Women and Child Development.

A 16-year-girl was being married to a 29-year-old man at Talawai village in Dharwad taluk.

Convincing parents

Members of the NGO convinced the parents of the bride and the groom against the marriage.

In the second incident in Jusugal village of Hubli taluk, a 14-year-old girl was being married to one 21-year-old man. His brother’s wedding too was organised at the same venue.

When the KIDS volunteers tried to convince the parents of the bride and the groom to cancel the ceremony, they were threatened with dire consequences.

They approached officials of the Department of Women and Child Development and the police and the marriage was prevented.
