A clash between two factions of the Bharatiya Janata Party here on Thursday marred a meeting called to strengthen the party ahead of the Assembly elections next year.
There was chaos for over 20 minutes at the hall where the district-level meeting, headed by Forest Minister and Mandya district in-charge C.P. Yogeshwar, was being held.
Trouble began when a few activists, led councillor Thayamma, raised objections to “migrated leaders” sharing the dais with the Minister. Members of another faction took objection to this, and the two groups traded abuses.
Workers condemned district BJP president H.P. Mahesh for not inviting MLCs Ashwath Narayan, Go. Madhusudan and D.S. Veeraiah, and Minister B.J. Puttaswamy for the meeting.
Mr. Yogeshwar and other leaders struggled to restore calm.
Finally, it took Deputy Superintendent of Police Shobharani and other police officials to bring the situation under control.
