The government's flip-flop over seat selection for engineering courses through lateral entry (for diploma holders) continues.

On Tuesday, Siddaiah, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, is learnt to have assured the agitating diploma students that a date for conducting a Common Entrance Test (CET) for polytechnic diploma holders would be announced within a week.

Earlier this month, the State government had announced that there would be no entrance exam this year for diploma students aspiring to join engineering courses.

As per All India Council for Technical Education's handbook for 2012-12, “the State admission authority shall invite applications under this category, make a separate merit list and effect admissions on the basis of merit list so generated.” This means that seat selection has to be based on diploma merit.
