Udupi: MP D.V. Sadananda Gowda has urged the Union Government to take immediate steps to check sea erosion in Karnataka.

In a press release issued here on Thursday, Mr. Gowda said that he had raised the issue in Lok Sabha.

The Union Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent H. Pala had in his reply stated that 249 km of coastline in Karnataka, 478 km in Kerala, and 641 km in Tamil Nadu had been affected by sea erosion. The Governments of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu had submitted proposals for consideration under the National Coastal Protection Project.These had been examined and forwarded to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which had agreed to provide assistance for the Project Preparatory Technical Assistance (PPTA). The ADB had also considered the PPTA with a grant of $ 1 million for preparing a Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Project, he said.
