`The Centre has no clear stand on the issue of reservation'
HUBLI: The SC Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the Union Government is trying to misuse reservation policy for political mileage.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Jagadish Hiremani, State organising secretary of the BJP SC Morcha, said the BJP had already supported the move to provide reservation in higher educational institutions but the UPA Government was doing injustice to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes by giving exemption to minority institutions.
The Centre had failed to arrive at a clear stand on the issue of reservation, which was affecting the interests of backward classes, he said.
Instead of taking steps to increase the percentage of reservation proportionate to the population of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, the UPA Government was trying to provide reservation to Dalits who had undergone conversion. The BJP strongly opposed reservation based on religion, he said.
The prices of essential commodities had gone up during the tenure of the UPA Government and SC Morcha planned to create awareness among slum dwellers and backward classes by organising an awareness campaign.
